2-Methyl-2-(4-nitro-phen-oxy)propanoic acid.

The title compound, C(10)H(11)NO(5), is of inter-est with respect to its anti-dyslipidemic activity. It was prepared by reaction of 4-nitro-phenol with ethyl 2-bromo-2-methyl-propionate followed by ethyl ester hydrolysis. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and the dimers are connected into chains by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions. The packing is further stabilized by offset π-π inter-actions between adjacent benzene rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.8643†(17)†à .
